Bred by J & K Quarter Horses in Mount Pleasant, Utah,
Pooch Chex was foaled in 1984. His sire was Kemars Bar
Chex out of Miss Shorty Bell. Pooch was started as a 3
year old by Jim Montgomery and sold to be a "Trail
Horse" in Park City. He was then traded back to Jim as a
10 year old as the owners thought he was getting to old
to be the trail horse they needed. In October of 1994 to
he was purchased by Glenn Miller to attempt the sport
of reining with him. Morris Kulmer had let Glenn ride
"Duster" and it was just unbelievable, riding a horse
that was trained as well as he was, Pooch learned
reining willingly. Pooch and Glenn to their first show in
the spring of 1995 at the Blue Sky Arena in Draper,
Glenn zeroed. With the help of Jim Montgomery, Kim
Wagoner, Noel Skinner, Dan Mayer, and Dale Davis,
had a pretty successful show career. Pooch won his first
NRHA Plaque at the show in Rexburg, Idaho on June 3rd,
1995 in the Rookie Class. Pooch's first Pewter was in
Inkom, Idaho with Carrie Ruiz as the Judge, that was a
great thrill for Glenn. Pooch competed in a total of 89 NRHA Classes and won 41 of them during his 6 year
career of showing. He collected 41
plaques/pewter's/bronzes. Pooch also won twenty
eight 2nd places, and eight 3rd places for a total of 77
out of 89 runs he was in the top 3 in his class. Pooch
also earned a NRHA Certificate of Merit, Silver
Certificate and Gold Certificate. Pooch was also long
listed to try out for USET in 2000, one of very few Non
Pro horses invited. Morris Kulmer and Glenn Miller
hauled Pooch to many shows together, along with 2 of
Morris, including the great "Doc O Duster Diamond"
and Peppys Smarty Pants, Pooch and Duster made
quite a pair. One of the highlights Glenn remember was
a show held at the "Rockin E Farms" arena in 1999,
Pooch showed in 5 NRHA classes, took first in 4 of them
and second in the other one. George King was the
NRHA judge, Pooch scored a "75" in the open class. He
has earnings of $11,030.00, all from local shows or
affiliate championships. Pooch was purchased in 2002
by Dale Almond of Pocatello ID for his daughter Katie to
do Queen contests. In spring of 2002 Jim Montgomery
got a phone call from Brett and RaeAnn Heiner about
getting some help on how to ride this great new horse
they found, Pooch Chex, three months later he won the
Utah High School Rodeo Association Horsemanship
competition and the crown and went on to do the same
at the National High School Rodeo Association Finals.
